The Icon™ Back System Low is a lightweight, low-profile solution tailored for users who require lower trunk support while maintaining freedom of movement in the upper body and trunk. By leaving the upper torso unimpeded, this back system allows for full range of motion, which supports greater independence in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).

Its gently curved shell wraps around the sides of the torso to offer mild lateral support, while the integrated enhanced rollover cushion protects from hard shell contact and maximises seated comfort.

Designed with clinicians, caregivers, technicians, and users in mind, the Icon™ Low Back system prioritises quick installation, adjustment versatility, and user-friendly operation. It attaches easily to the wheelchair frame using adjustable VariLock™ hardware and includes a VARILITE® air-foam floatation cushion that delivers reliable, pressure-relieving comfort.

When adjustments or removal are needed, users can simply open the Slide Caps and slide the back support out of place. The caps remain open until the support is removed—making one-handed operation possible even for users with limited dexterity. Once guided into place, the caps securely lock the back support, with bright orange indicators to show if the system is not fully secured.

Flexible Shell & Hardware: Simple, Secure, and Smart

The Icon™ hardware and shell system installs on virtually any wheelchair in just a few steps:

• Only two parts require attachment to the wheelchair; all other components come pre-assembled.
• All screws are uniform in size, requiring only one tool for setup or adjustment.
• Seat depth can be customised without special parts—simply reverse the hardware to increase posterior or decrease anterior depth.

Adjusting angle, width, height, and depth is easy thanks to accessible screw points, even while the user remains seated. Once locked in, Cane Brackets hold tight and won’t slip. Additionally, the Adjuster Plate mechanism ensures the recline setting remains secure during daily use, even when significant pressure is applied.

Built-In Comfort with Rollover Cushion Protection

Comfort and protection are embedded in every detail. The rollover cushion is securely built into the cover, guarding against shell-edge contact during trunk extension or lateral movements. Whether shifting position or performing daily tasks, users can feel secure and supported.

Inside the cover, a VARILITE® air-foam floatation cushion provides adaptive support. Multi-stiffness sculpted foam follows the natural contours of the back:

• Soft foam protects sensitive spinal areas
• Firmer foam reinforces the sides of the trunk
• A two-way air valve allows personalised inflation and deflation for tailored pressure relief

Breathable, Durable Cover

The cover is made from breathable spacer-knit fabric, which promotes air circulation and reduces heat buildup. Inside, reticulated foam enhances both ventilation and pressure distribution for longer-lasting comfort. The cover is also machine washable and complies with ISO 7176-16 ignition resistance standards for safety.

Optional Accessories for Custom Support

For users who require more targeted postural support, the Icon™ Low Back System is compatible with a variety of accessories:

• The PSIS Block helps maintain an anterior pelvic tilt by supporting the sacrum at the posterior superior iliac spine (PSIS) level.
• Supplemental Lateral Pads assist in correcting or preventing lateral lean, supporting users in an upright, midline position.
• Accessories attach via hook-and-loop fasteners for easy, tool-free positioning inside the shell.
