Leckey MyWay Walker
When supported in ‘MyWay’, the wheeled frame allows children to propel themselves about their environment in an upright position, using their lower limbs, keeping their hands free to play and explore.
MyWay’s unique corset-like harness delivers the core stability required to develop head and limb control, enabling children to achieve an optimum stepping pattern and active movement. The hug-like effect of the harness increases sensory feedback, dampens involuntary movement and increases a user’s confidence and chance of succeeding.
The MyWay frame is an open-front, hands-free design which makes touching, feeling, participating and discovering easier, giving children greater opportunities for development and learning. Furthermore, the open-design allows therapists to get close to the child and work with their lower limbs whilst they are in MyWay, facilitating guided movement and maximising the potential for therapeutic benefits.
Hug-Like Effect
Many children experience difficulties maintaining good trunk alignment when in an upright position but the MyWay+ harness offers something different. The revolutionary MyWay+ harness has been designed to give 360° wraparound support to promote optimal stepping pattern. Its hug-like effect increases sensory feedback, dampens involuntary movement and provides core stability with comfort, support and reassurance. It provides added core stability, which in turn can improve lower limb movements and head control.
Hoistable For Easier Transitions
The MyWay+ harness is hoistable, encouraging easier transitions in and out of the MyWay+ frame, using the optional hoisting straps accessory.
There is no need to use a different hoisting sling to do this, saving time and supporting the child in getting maximum use and enjoyment out of their MyWay+!
New Side Stepping Function
Children with additional needs often have weaker muscles, especially around their hips, which can impact on their gait, function and hip joint development. The new side step function of the MyWay+ locks the wheels of the frame in a sideways position, providing opportunity to target and strengthen hip abductor muscles whilst fully supported in the frame.
Optional Ankle Guides
The optional ankle guides are designed to help separate the child’s legs to control scissoring gait. The MyWay+ ankle guide rails are flexible, which gives children more flexibility during use and in set-up. The guides can be used at the ankle or adjusted slightly higher up the calf, depending on individual needs.
New & Improved Adult Handles
The new easy-adjust adult handles are height adjustable for a range of carer heights. They enable a carer to guide the child around small spaces, and encourage first steps or first pedals to become meaningful movements.
Newly Developed Castors
MyWay+’s newly developed indoor/outdoor castors enable children to be active in lots of different environments.
These castors are multifunctional and offer brake, direction lock, anti-roll back and resistance, which assists steering, prevents backwards movement, limits speed as required etc, and means MyWay+ can be tailored to the individual child’s needs, helping maximise their opportunity for use and further promoting function.
MyWay Pedal
The MyWay Pedal is an elliptical trainer which attaches to the size 2 and 3 MyWay+ frame.
It is suitable for children classified as GMFCS III-V and can be used as part of a child’s therapy programme, or just to enable them to be active and have fun with their friends!
MyWay Pedal targets and strengthens anti-gravity muscles to help reduce the risk of hip and knee contractures developing and improve function.
Pedalling in an upright, weight-bearing position targets and strengthens anti-gravity muscles (calf, quads and gluteals) – unlike cycling, which encourages a flexed, seated position.
Encouraging movement with optimal alignment promotes symmetry and ensures active strengthening and stretching of the muscles in the lower limbs.
MyWay Pedal provides a sensori-motor experience similar to gait. It facilitates a reciprocal, elliptical action which is more like stepping than the circular motion of cycling, to help support gait therapy goals.
It can be used passively at first by children who struggle to initiate any steps, to promote muscle memory patterns and encourage a good stepping motion; and later actively, by initiating the movement themselves. Children can also progress from having the ankle straps in place to provide support to then removing them for the hardest workout.
