Help Us Get a Special Chair for Sol Catalina

At Active Rehab, we believe that every person deserves dignity, comfort, and the independence that comes with the right equipment. Today, we want to share the story of Sol Catalina — a beautiful 21-year-old young woman whose life could be transformed with the help of a special Convaid stroller.

Sol’s Story

Sol Catalina was born with spastic cerebral palsy, a condition that has left her completely dependent on her mother, Marina Álvarez. Marina is her full-time carer and a single parent. Despite her daily challenges, Catalina’s smile shines with strength and resilience.

For years, Marina has carried and lifted her daughter to therapy appointments and outdoors for fresh air. But now, at 21 years old and weighing 37kg, Catalina is too heavy to lift safely. Without proper support, she has been confined to bed most of the day. The lack of seating has caused her spine to become deformed and limited her quality of life.

Out of necessity, Catalina has sometimes been placed in a baby stroller — even though she has long outgrown it. It’s uncomfortable, undignified, and unsafe. But with no resources and no alternative, Marina has had no choice.

A Life-Changing Solution

After careful research, Catalina’s family discovered that a Convaid wheelchair-style stroller from Australia is significantly more affordable than purchasing one in Colombia. This specialised chair will provide:

  • Proper seating and positioning support

  • Comfort and posture correction

  • The ability to sit upright and go outdoors

  • Access to therapy and community activities

The total goal is $3,500 AUD to cover the stroller and international shipping.

How Active Rehab Is Helping

When we learned of Catalina’s story, we wanted to contribute. Active Rehab has donated the upholstery and essential positioning supports that are required to make the Convaid stroller safe and functional for Catalina.

Now, all that’s left is raising the remaining funds to deliver the stroller to her family in Colombia.
